    Harvest Update - August 30, 2018

    Posted on Aug 31, 2018

Third cutting has wrapped up in Washington State, and water is expected to turn off in the next 7-10 days in some areas to start 4th cutting. Growers in Klamath Falls, Oregon are expecting to be done with 3rd cutting in the next week, as Christmas Valley just begins around that time. Haze caused by wildfires has improved and curing conditions are back to normal for this time of year.

In Arizona, 7th cutting continues and all growers having finished baling 6th cutting. Temperatures are decreasing in the Pacific Southwest, and monsoon season has ended. Third cutting is complete in New Mexico, and we are already seeing good growth on 4th cutting. Demand continues to be strong in the PSW and inventories are lower than what is typical for this time of year.

Second cutting continues in Washington State, with approximately 60% of fields cut in both the Kittitas Valley and Columbia Basin. Approximately 40-50% has been baled in those areas. Growers are making good progress with the improved curing conditions in the region.

Straw harvest has wrapped up in Oregon, and we have not seen any quality issues this year. Please communicate your inventory and pricing needs for the year as our buyers and sales representatives work to provide appropriate inventories for our partners overseas.
