    Harvest Update - August 2, 2018

    Posted on Aug 3, 2018

Some growers in Washington State were able to start 3rd cutting last week and will start baling this week. Second cutting from this region had great color going into the bale and is testing well, and we’re seeing increased demand of higher grades from our overseas partners. In Oregon, growers have all of 2nd cutting on the ground and are finishing up baling in Klamath Falls.

Monsoon season continues in the Pacific Southwest, and growers in Arizona are making good headway navigating weather windows to finish 5th cutting last week and begin 6th cutting in many areas this week. Typical for this region this time of year, we expect most of the inventory to be lower grades. In New Mexico, water has been turned off and 3rd cutting is expected to begin early next week.

Second cutting has begun in the Columbia Basin, and harvest is going well. We expect cutting to begin in the Kittitas Valley in the next couple of weeks, dependent on weather conditions.

Baling continues in Oregon for both Fescue and Rye. The Willamette Valley has seen high temperatures over the last week, which are expected to ease over the weekend and into next week. We expect baling to be completed by the end of next week, at which point quality will be assessed.
